Bailey, Pete Electronics Inc Prior to retirement Peter was Staff Engineer, Advanced Manufacturing Process Development Manufacturing and Quality Technology Department General Electric Aircraft Engines. Mr. Bailey joined General Electric in July 1972. Prior to that time he was involved in the development of dispersion-strengthened mill products with E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Co., and then Fansteel, Inc. Prior to his DuPont and Fansteel experience, Mr. Bailey worked for the Line Division of Union Carbide Corporation, primarily in the application of industrial gases to steel making. Degrees: BS Mechanical Engineering, Cornell University 1956, and MS Mechanical Engineering, Stevens Institute of Technology 1961.
Barker, Bill Progressive Technologies Inc Sales Engineer for Progressive Technologies, Bill holds his BS degree in Physics. His military service included seven years in the US Navy as an officer aboard a Nuclear Submarine. Prior to joining Progressive Technologies, Bill was involved in the power transmission industry followed by Honeywell as engineering sales. He has worked in sales and application engineering at Progressive for several years, having focused on the processes of shot peening, grit blasting, thermal spray coating and high pressure waterjet cutting attaining a market primarily in the aerospace and automotive industries.
Cammett, John Navair Depot - Cherry Point Materials Engineer, Naval Aviation Depot, Cherry Point, NC. Dr. Cammett 's technical activities currently include; Analysis of aircraft component failures, development of repair/rework process methods and technical support of depot manufacturing operations. Oversee manufacturing technology investigations to determine feasibility/application to depot activities and metallurgical consultations. Dr. Cammett spent 20 years with Metcut Research Associates in fatigue, fracture mechanics, residual stress measurement, metallurgical research and failure analysis. He has also spent five years at GE/Cincinnati specializing in fatigue, low cycle fatigue and fracture mechanics properties of aircraft engine materials. He received his BS and MS in Metallurgical Engineering from Ohio State University and his PhD in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. A Registered Professional Engineer, Dr. Cammett is a fellow of ASTM, past Chairman of Committee E-9 on Fatigue, past Chairman and member of ASM International and member of the International Scientific Committee on Shot Peening and member of the Organizing Committee for ICSP-6.
Champaigne, Jack Electronics Inc President of Electronics Incorporated and Publisher of three International Newsletter; THE SHOP PEENER. Jack received his BSEE degree in 1968 from Purdue University and has been involved with shot peening since 1978. Technical achievements include ten US Patents and inventor of the MagnaValve. As editor of THE SHOT PEENER, he has assembled one of the largest libraries of articles on shot peening and related topics, which has become an industry resource. He is a member of the International Committee on Shot Peening, past-chairman of the International Conference on Shot Peening (ICSP-6), which was held in San Francisco, CA., 1996. He is a member of SAE and participates in the Aerospace Materials Engineering Committee and is currently holds the position of Committee Chairman of the Surface Enhancement Division of Fatigue Design and Evaluation Committee.
Davies, Christopher Potters Employed at Potters for almost 20 years. Presently Technical Service manager for Highway Safety and Impact industries for North America. Past positions were in process engineering , R+D product development. Worked to develop retroreflectometer instruments to measure pavement marking visibility with FHWA. Mechanical Engineer with Master of Science Management. Member various ASTM, CIE, SAE AMEC committees all relating to glass beads.
Davies, Dean Ervin Industries Sales Manager for Ervin Industries, Dean received his education at Jackson Michigan Community College and the University of Michigan School of Business. He began his career with Ervin Industries in 1976 as an hourly employee at the Adrian Michigan facility. In 1990 he became involved in the production, maintenance and quality control operations and joined the sales force in 1991. His responsibilities include the sales in eleven states while conducting seminars each year.
Dickey, Dan Innovative Peening Systems Dan Dickey: President and owner of Innovative Peening Systems. Dan Received his education from Southwest Missouri State University School of Business. He began his metal finishing career in 1983 as a technical sales representative for a Southeastern United States metal finishing distributor. After being promoted to sales manager he later became president of the company and founded a division of the company, Innovative Peening Systems (IPS). IPS started as an air blast rebuild facility and progressed to manufacturing medium priced shot peening and blasting machines. In 2000, he purchased Innovative Peening from the distributor and now operates the company in Duluth, Georgia. Originally a student of the first workshop in 1991, Dan has been a speaker at the shot peen workshop since 1997.
Diverty, Dan BCP Dan joined Wheelabrator Canada in 1974 as a member of the engineering group, later he became supervisor of the drawing office between 1975 to 1978. He joined the Wheelabrator Canada sales team in 1978 as a Territory Representative. Dan graduated through the sales force as the Product Manager of Wheel Blast Cleaning and Peening areas of the Wheelabrator Business. In 1999 through the reorganization of the BCP Wheelabrator Group, Dan was assigned the duties of Peening Manager for North America.
Gillespie, Bob Premier Shot Co Founder and President of Premier Shot Company, Bob graduated in 1966 from Cleveland State University. Majoring in Metallurgy, he as over twenty years experience being directly involved in the field of shot peening and blasting media. He spent seventeen years at Metal Improvement Company, Cincinnati Division as Manager of Technical Services and serving as Division Manager and Director of Research and Development for the corporate office in Paramus, NJ. In 1988 he founded Premier Shot Company and has been involved in all aspects of shot peening from processing of parts to design and development of computer controlled shot peening equipment. Premier Shot Company manufactures high quality conditioned cut wire media for use in critical shot peening processes and also provides services such as complete shot evaluation and introduction of new technology items which involve Image Analysis for automatic inspection of shot peening media.
Harrison, James Metal Improvement Co Marketing Manager, Special Projects Metal Improvement Co. Inc. Wichita, KS. 67211. Jim is a graduate of the University of Kansas. He has worked at Metal Improvement for 16 years in both marketing and production. Areas of expertise include Lasershotsm peening, shot peening, peen forming and heat treat processing of metal parts. Prior to working for MIC Jim worked for Learjet and the Coleman Co. of Wichita. In his spare time he prepares and races a 1972 Corvette in Sports Car Club of America solo events and hacks at golf balls.
I'anson, Ken Progressive Technologies Inc Sales Engineer for Progressive Technologies. Ken has been involved in the shot peening industry from the equipment side for 23 years. Ken has contributed many articles and papers that are currently used in the Shot Peener Workshop Manual and has attended every Workshop since the beginning in 19990. Ken has held positions over the years with Wheelabrator Corporation, Blast Cleaning Products (BCP), Blastworks Inc. US Filter and Progressive Technologies. His experience is unique in that it has covered both centrifugal wheel peening and compressed air nozzle peening. Ken's present focus is on airframe and land based turbine shot peening applications and is pleased to be a presenter at these yea's Shot Peening and Blast Cleaning Workshop.
Ingram, Mark Electronics Inc In 1973Mark received and Electronics Degree at ITT Technical Institute. Upon graduation Mark went to Crown International as a line technician later moving to an engineering department. 1987 Mark joined Eneractive Group to design DC to AC converters for the RV Industry along with many other electronic devices for the industry. 1990 Mark joined Electronics Incorporated and began doing test and repair work in house and in the field. It was through this work that Mark gained experience and knowledge about the shot peening industry and has gone on to design new products for the industry.
Lutsko, Dwight Jet Wheelblast Dwight Lutsko is General Sales Manager of B&U Corporation's four divisions: Jet Wheelblast Equipment, Jet Air Technologies, Kleiber & Schulz and Snedeker Machine. He started in metal finishing field in 1973. He received his Associate Science degreee in Electric/Electronic Technology and his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management.
Nudelman, Alan Composition Materials Alan graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering. His career was with IBM in Marketing and business management and attended the Graduate School of Business Administration of the University of Connecticut while working for IBM in Westchester County, New York. In 1988 he became President of Composition Materials Company which became a major producer of Plastic Blasting Media (Plasti-Grit) and other abrasives. Today CMC distributes abrasives, masking systems, fillers and extenders for both industrial and consumer product areas.
Protebois, Alain ISPC-Sisson Lehmann Alain is Sales and Marketing Director. He received his Dipl.Engineer from Reims University - France. He has over 23 years experience in mechanincal surface preparation in blasting & peening: wheel, airblast, liquid equipment and also mass finishing. (fluent French/English/German)
Rabel, Greg Midwestern Industries Sales Engineer with Midwestern Industries for almost 20 years, Greg covers the outside sales for Midwestern Industries in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. He received his BA in Management from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, CA., while serving seven years in the US Air Force at Edwards AFB.
Reckart, Larry W. S. Tyler 1973 I enlisted in the United States Navy. Made eight deterrent patrols aboard the fleet ballistic missile submarine Kamehameha (SSBN 642) as part of the Gold crew. I was honorably discharge from the navy in 1979. In 1980 I began a carrier as a nuclear plant startup engineer that spanned the next 14 years and included the startup of nuclear plants in Ohio, Arizona, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia (High Level Waste Vitrafication Facility). In 1994 I had the opportunity to go back to school and obtain a degree in Business Management from Lakeland Collage. In 1995 I went to work for W.S. Tyler in Mentor, Ohio as the Quality Control Manager. In a short time I became involved in a new photo optical particle analysis technology that W.S. Tyler and Haver & Boecker were bringing to the market. In 1998 I was made Product Manager for the Computerized Particle Analyzer (CPA). As the CPA Product Manager I am responsible for sales and service of the instrument in North & South America, Mexico and Canada.
Sheyka, Jerry EMI President of EMI, Inc., South Bend, IN., Jerry received his B.S.M.E from University of New Mexico in 1966 and his M.B.A from the University of Notre Dame in 1979. He was an engineer for Dodge Manufacturing prior to joining Wheelabrator Corporation and in 1987 became President of EMI, Inc. A full service company specializing in Shot Blast & Vibratory Finishing services, Blast Equipment (new, used & rebuilt), Dust Collection Equipment and many Technical Services in the area of sample parts finishing, testing and demonstrations.
Schneidau, Volker Schlick Roto-Jet is and engineer and also the sales manager for Schlick roto-jet. He joined Schlick in 1997 as a design engineer and later was active in machine commissioning and then moved into sales. His hometown is Dattein, Germany.
Schwab, Dominique ISPC-Sisson Lehmann Graduate Senior Engineer from French "Grande Ecole d'Ingenieur" with over 18 year experience in peening process and equipment manufacturing.
Sorenson, Michael Boeing Michael A. Sorenson - A native of Billings, MT., Michael graduated in 1986 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and a minor in Industrial & Management Engineering from Montana State University in Bozeman, Mt. Since college graduation, he has been employed by the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group at their Fabrication Division in Auburn, WA. His first (2) years were spent as a Manufacturing Engineering planner, primarily supporting the B-2 program. Over the next 2 years, he successfully completed an engineering-in-training rotation, where he had assignments in NC programming, tool design, and sheet metal process engineering. Since 1990, he has worked as a process engineer in the Machined Products manufacturing business unit, which makes various landing gear support and wing components for all Boeing commercial airplane models. Since 1992, his primary area of responsibility has been in supporting the shotpeen area. He has led efforts in area process improvements, coordinating new shotpeen work, purchasing shotpeen machines, documenting area procedures and training. In the last (2) years, his responsibilities have also included providing manufacturing engineering support to his shop's assembly and kitting areas. Michael resides in Federal Way, WA, with his wife, Dena, and 3 year old son, Luke.
Tobben, Herb Zero Blast Div of Clemco Industries Herb joined Zero Manufacturing in 1970, supervising the assembly and testing of the companies Blast N Peen line of automated and manual cabinets. In 1986 Clemco Industries acquired Zero Manufacturing and putting Herb in the position to manage the Sample-processing Laboratory at Clemco in Washington, MO. He conducts shot peening classes both on-site and at their facility. He has been involved with Sample Processing and Research and Development for most of his time with Clemco. The Clemco laboratory tests the effects of shot peening, blast cleaning, deburring, dry stripping and surface finishing processes in parts submitted by their customers. Herb has been instrumental in applying more control in shot peening and developing lightweight media equipment for Clemco's Aerolyte Systems Division. In the area of shot peening applications, Herb and his technicians determine the size, type and number of blast guns needed to produce acceptable parts and meet production requirements, creating specialized nozzles, parts fixtures and even robotic systems when needed.
Weil, Gary Wheelabrator Corporation Director-Risk Management & Technical Services - International Surface Preparation Corporation (ISPC): Responsible for the intellectual property, product insurance and technical support related to the equipment and service requirements of the former USF Surface Preparation Group of Companies. Includes support for OEM & Distribution companies on procedures, practices and requirements for safe, effective, timely and error free sales, service, operation and maintenance. Thirty-seven (37) years of experience in the airless blasting market in various roles with the Wheelabrator organization and its parent companies. Whalen, Jim Progressive Technologies Inc Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Progressive Technologies. Jim has been involved with the shot peening process for over 12 years. Upon receiving his BSME he joined General Electric and held several positions in both the Corporate Manufacturing Management Program and the Manufacturing Technology laboratory (MTL) within GE Aircraft Engines. He gained shot peening expertise by developing new peening processes, tooling analytical analysis and inspection tools, and equipment to peen critical aircraft engine components. Jim was instrumental in introducing NC peening to GE's production division by specifying and installing new equipment, NC peening methods and operator training. During these assignments Jim also received a MSME from the University of Cincinnati. Jim has also had the distinguished honor of being part of their team named the 1993 "Shot Peener of the Year". In 1994, Jim left GE to join Progressive Technologies as Manager of Process Engineering. In this position, Jim developed and enhanced Progressive's process experience to aid in the design and build of industry leading peening, blasting, and water jet machine tools.
