The UKıs leading spring-making organisations the UK Spring Manufacturers Association (UKSMA) and the Institute of Spring Technology (IST) have become official supporters of the Subcon 2005 exhibition. Subcon is the UKıs only exhibition dedicated to subcontract manufacturing services and takes place at the NEC, Birmingham, from 24th to 26th May 2005.
The UKSMA is dedicated solely to the UK Spring Manufacturing Industry and provides its members with products and services aimed at helping them gain a competitive advantage. The IST is a UK-based centre of excellence for all aspects of spring research, development and training, and also provides material and mechanical testing services for springs and non-spring components.
The UKSMA and the IST join an impressive array of supporting organisations from across manufacturing that also includes the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA), GTMA, the Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM), the Surface Engineering Association (SEA), the Cast Metals Federation (CMF), the Association of Industrial Laser Users (AILU) and the British Engineering Manufacturers Association (BEMA).
Commenting on the
move the Arthur Hooper, said:
³Spring makers have always been well represented at Subcon, and it is a great
showcase for the talents and experience of our industry. We look forward to
being part of Subcon 2005 and, as well as providing practical support to
members at the show, we also want to make our voice heard as part of Subconıs
conference and presentation programme.²
Subcon Event Director Jon Hughes added, ³³Our supporting bodies will be part of the fabric of Subcon 2005, and their contributions will help companies address the issues facing UK manufacturing. I think the fact that we have bought nine leading associations on board underlines the importance and value of this event.²
Nearly two-thirds of the visitors to Subcon 2004 came specifically to source new suppliers, and over a quarter of the visitors had an annual budget for outsourcing of more than £1 million. And for many exhibitors the show is a chance to meet buyers they would never normally have the chance to see.
Subcon covers all aspects of subcontract manufacturing from volume
machining through to full design and build services. Visitors come to the show
to select suppliers in areas that include machined parts, sheet metal working,
presswork, design, welding and fabrication, casting, forging and assembly, as
well as plastic and rubber components and electronic assemblies. Specialist
services such as tool-making, metal finishing, rapid prototyping, deep hole
drilling, de-burring, gear manufacture and heat treatment are also well
represented.
