News Release—Lambda Research

Date: November 20, 2003

RE: ASIP 2003
Lambda Research is pleased to announce that our work on low plasticity burnishing (LPB) of aging aircraft and other aerospace structural applications has been selected for presentation at ASIP (USAF Aircraft Structural Integrity Program) 2003.

This presentation details the mechanical suppression of stress corrosion failure modes, specifically corrosion fatigue in AA7075-T6 using LPB. ASIP 2003 will be held December 2-4, 2003 at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center in Savannah, Georgia. The following presentation may be of interest to you:
"Mitigation of Active Corrosion Fatigue and Corrosion Pit Initiated Fatigue in AA7075-T6 with Low Plasticity Burnishing" Presented by Paul Prev~y, co-authors: Dr. N. Jayaraman and Dr. John Cammett

Thursday, December 4, 10:30 am. Data will be presented detailing the mechanical suppression improvements due to LPB processing in 7075-T6 Aluminum. Specifically the fatigue benefit of the corrosion fatigue sensitive aluminum
was improved to three times the strength of a corroded machined surface and 150% of the strength of the non-corroded machined surface. The fatigue life of the 7075-T6 exposed to either prior salt fog pitting or active corrosion during
fatigue at stress levels above the baseline endurance limit is at least 200 times greater with prior LPB mechanical suppression.
