Abstract:
To study the influence of shot peening on fatigue properties of spring steels, fatigue tests were performed with a rotative bending machine on 50CV4 and 56SC7 specimens. The influence of surface conditions (characterized by roughness measurements) and the impact of shot peening and its operating parameters (characterized by an Almen intensity) on material properties was determined. Shot peening has a favorable effect on fatigue life of spring steels while roughness from the mechanical finishing operation before shot peening is more or less important according to the shot-peening intensity.
