Abstract:
X-ray diffraction techniques for quality control in the shot-peening process are discussed. Compressive stress after shot peening, stress measurement, fatigue tests and fatigue life increase through dual peening are considered. Velocities and shot breakdown are analyzed. Controlling shot peening through monitoring shot intensity, coverage and quality and machine controls generally proves successful. Descriptors: Spring steels-- Structural hardening; Gears-- Structural hardening; Shot peening-- Quality control; Fatigue life-- Stress effects; X-ray diffraction
