Abstract:
Controlled shot peening improves the fatigue performance of gear teeth. Today, there is no argument over that claim. Extensive data from programs of fatigue testing gear teeth conducted throughout the industrial world for the past forty years demonstrate that shot peening can be recommended to: 1) prolong gear life 2) increase stress level 3) avoid redesign of gears 4) allow reduced size and weight 5) reduce costs.
