Abstract:
ABSTRACT The stability of the surface state induced by mechanical surface treatments during thermal, quasi-static and cyclic loading is of high interest in order to understand the effects of these processes on the mechanical properties. In this paper mechanisms leading to and models describing the relaxation of residual stresses as representative of the surface state as well as typical experimental findings are presented at the steel AISI4140 which is taken as an example material. Effects of different modified peening processes are included in the evaluation.
