Abstract:
In choosing the conditions to be used in shot peening for increased fatigue strength, a number of questions arise regarding the particular application. Usually, they are
question of economics and may include the following: 1) Is it a production job, or one of which only a few parts are involved? 2) If it is a production job, what is the
expected volume of production to be handled in the peening operation? 3) How much increase in life or in load carrying capacity is expected from the peening operation? 4)
What is the unit of cost of making the part, exclusive of peening? 5) What areas of the part are most highly stressed? the answers to some of these questions will be
obvious, while others may be very ddifficult to determine, and the best we can expect is a rough guess. In any case, the more complete such information is, the better
chance we have to designing a procedure to fit the particular application.
