Abstract:
Variations in machining parameters that are employed in traditional and nontraditional metal cutting operations can have a profound effect on surface characteristics such as
microstructure, residual stresses and surface sensitive mechanical properties, specifically fatigue and stress corrosion resistance. The effects of shot peening, a commonly
employed post-machining operation, on the surface sensitive properties of several aerospace materials are presented. Test materials were 4340 steel, Ti--6A1--4V, Rene 95
and Inconel 718.
