Abstract:
Abstract: This section contains information for shotpeening of metal parts where surface was originally shotpeened, or in certain cases where metal removal has occurrred thru rework operations. Shotpeening is an operation which subjects the surface of a part to a shot stream that works the surfaces to produce a compressive stress layer. This process is used to resist formation of fatigue cracks and to increase resistance tos tress corrosion cracking. Parts requiring shotpeening are metal parts which are sukbjected to repeated applications of high stresses. These pa;rts are listed in the applicable Overhaul Manual. Shot size and peening intensity are determined by the material and thickness of the part to be shotpeened.
