Abstract:
ADI materials are going to be applied to transmission gears. Endurance tests of the ADI gears were carried out to discuss summarily the effects of shot peening and heat
treatment on the endurance limits of bending strength as well as surface durability. It is clarified that the shot peened ADI gears are suitable to gear materials due to
the increase of the endurance limits, although those gears have rough surface. At the same time, special precautions are required in utilizing the ADI with a low hardness
of base material and in using of oil with no EP additives as the endurance limits are restricted by surface durability.
