Abstract:
ABSTRACT Recently, the improvement of the high strength of fine grain steels has been investigated actively. In the present study, interior and surface residual stress distributions in fine grain steel after shot peening were measured by X-ray diffraction. Moreover, the hardening effect near the shot peened surface was also examined. The relationships between the hardening effects of shot peening and the grain size of material are discussed. It is found that both the initial hardness before shot peening and the mean grain size of the sample had an influence on the distributions of the hardness and the residual stress.
