I am interested in learning how best to specify the surface prep of steel
for best adhesive bonding to rubber. (enduse; outdoor, vibration buffers
with 10 to 20 ton loads)

I have see some vibration buffers suffer from under-bond corrosion, and yet the same part manufactured by others never has this failure after 5+ years of exposure and the same working loads/frequency.

Thought it might have something to do with some chemical pre-treatment of the steel before wheelabrating or other surface blasting.

Also not sure what Almen standard wouldbe most appropriate, and what microscopic surface roughness of the metal is best to prevent under-bond corrosion.

Hi Tony,

Best abrsive for rubber bonding is chilled iron grit of size G24 (size0.6mm), it will give a good etch for bonding.
