Dear Dr. Peener

We have a computer controlled shot peening machine and we have been taking intensity verifications at the beginning and end of each lot of parts or every 8 hours - whichever is the least amount of time. However when reading AMS 2432 page 11, 4.3.2.1 it sounds as if we should be running strips before and after production runs and at least every 4 hours of production. Is this correct or is there something I am overlooking?

I understand there is a revision in the works for AMS 2432, is this correct information?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Sue
AMS 2432B does require the 4 hour intervals.
This spec will be discussed on Jan 31 at the next AMEC meeting in Asilomar, CA. Let me know if you have suggestions etc.

I do think the Intensity check requirement should be changed to 8 hours in AMS2432B, as long as the shot peening machine control equipments comply with applicable specifications regarding calibration and accuracy. It sounds a bit wierd that a machine that is made to be more accurate should get intensity verifications more often...
