My question is, can "Olivine" media be used to blast the paint from the surface of ductile cast iron, without masking defects when Magnetic Particle inspections are required? Magnetic Particle inspection is done in accordance with NAVSEA 0900 LP-003-800. Is there any info out there on this media?

Olivine blasting media is called "Green Lightning" and is sold in #30 , #50, #70 and #90 mesh sizes.

Green Lightning is produced from Olivine, a naturally occuring mineral composed of Forsterite (Mg2SiO4) and Fayalite (Fe2SiO4). This material is free of chloride ions and corrosive salts, therefore it eliminates conductivity and flashback rusting. Blast cleaned surfaces will exceed SSPC immersion and atmospheric standards.

Supplier is Unimin Corp. of Canaan CT, phone # 800 243-9004, or fax # 800 243-9005
