Hi Jack, have posted the b.m. message in several chapters of the forum. Does anyone have information on max. flowrates of steel shot or cut wire shot at given pressure and given nozzle diameter?
I am facing problems getting a stable media flow using 8 kg/min cut wire shot #23 (=0,8 mm) at 6 bar through a 6 mm nozzle. All machine settings are correct and media flow is stable until 4 kg/min. After increasing the flow, the flow starts to get unstable.

Any recommendations and/or info is welcome.

Do you have charts indicating this info?

Appreciate your reply

Hi there,

Why do you need 8 kg/min flow? That sounds like an awful lot of flow for a 6 mm nozzle. Even 4 kg/min sounds like a lot.

My guess is that the instability comes from the media 'clumping' as it flows to the nozzle. At too high flow rates you actually get less effective peening because there is not enough air to propel the shot at the needed velocity.

I would settle on a stable flow and then adjust the machine to get the parameters that I need, eg, saturation, coverage, intensity, etc.
