From Yoshihiro Watanabe Toyo Seiko:

According to the specification AMS2430S, required sieves for shot media test are as follows.
But basically there is no specification of sieving in process(in Machine). So we suggest some modified sieving screen size.

The sieve size of a lower side is the same as AMS2430S. But for upper side sieves, some attention are necessary for the choice. When sieve openings are the same as AMS2430S, the sieve in process could be clogged. So we usually use the double of test sieve opening if applicable.

1) CWS62 Sieve openings
Upper : No.8 2.36mm (0.0937inch)
Lower: No.14 1.40mm (0.0555inch)

2)CWS32
Upper : No.16 1.18mm (0.0469inch)
Lower: No.25 0.71mm (0.0278inch)

3) CWS17
Upper : No.30 0.600mm (0.0234inch)
Lower: No.45 0.355mm (0.0139inch)

Many thanks.

This will sound a dumb question, but in your expert opinion would you every expect say CWS62 media to ever wear or reduce in size enough to pass through the 1.4 sieve as good media (this does not include broken media)? And subsequently the same for the other 2 medias?

The reason for my question is if it is possible that would then mean the this media would obviously fail against its original requirements but then would be to large to be reclassified as the next media (as it wouldnt pass through its top sieve) and so would require removing from the process and be scrap.

CWS62 bottom screen is 1.4mm or 0.0555 inch. If the media passes through this screen then it will pass through the top screen of next size (CWS54) 2.0mm or .0787inch. It should then be retained on the bottom screen which is 1.18mm or 0.0469 inch.

We use AWCR and AWCH conditioned cut wire of various sizes. Once conditioned, I have never seen a piece of this material fracture. This is one of the major benefits of using CCW that it actually continues to improve until its finally no longer meets a size that you are using. Perhaps you could find a way to sell your used material so someone who is using CWS54, 28 and 14? Or introduce processes using these sizes yourself.
