Hi everybody,

I have a question about coverage and overpeening.

I know, overpeening is not allowed during production. It will reduce fatigue life.

Could everyone tell me the definition of overpeening, a very high intensity than requirements, or a very high coverage such as a wave on peened surface, or both?

our process specification is AMS-S-13165/AMS-2430, but I cannot find any description of overpeening.

Any advices?

Over peening is a condition that can be caused be either peening above the specified intensity range or by excessive coverage, usually more than 200%.

Over peening is easily identifiable by rolled edges or bulging of material.

A simple definition would be: Over peening is a condition were the part exceeds the drawing limitations on intensity and or the part exhibits material edge roll and or bulging.
