MIL-R-81841 mentions (in section 6.6) to avoid flap peening very thin sections at high intensities because of distortion and high residual tensile stresses that may result.

However, it is unclear what is considered "thin".

Would flap peening a corner of a 1/8" thick titanium plate at 9.0N distort it and should be avoided?

I understand that some members here are involved with the proposed alternative SAE ASM spec for Flap Peening which also includes this (section 6.3), and I'm wondering if the thickness can be clarified.

Thank you,
James
