When Almen Gauge was calibrated by the agency, they changed the head. They gave a certification of calibration along with a certification for the new head. The due date for the next calibration for the Almen Gauge was January 20, 2010 but the certification for the head said the head was calibrated on August 17, 2008 at the time of the exwork from the plant. Does it mean the calibration for the head will expire before the due date for the next calibration of the almen gauge?

I will need some more information in order to rectify your situation.

1. Who did the calibration of the gage? It was done through Electronics Inc. the certificate of calibration included the gage head and the entire gage should be recalibrated on Jan. 20th.

2. Was the new gage head installed after the last calibration of the gage? If that is the case, since a new component was instaled onto the gage, the entire gage should have gone through recalibration. That recalibration would have included the new gage head and everything would be rescheduled for the same date.

3. Did you purchase the gage head from Electronics Inc.? If you did, you did not receive a certificate of calibration but instead received a Certificate of Conformance indicating that it was manufacture to SAE J442 specifications.

Ultimately, if you installed a new gage head onto a Almen gage, regardless of wether you received a calibration certificate with the head, the entire gage should have been recalibrated.

Sorry for my late response, however, after receiving your reply, every procedure was re-verified thoroughly following your comments. As a result, we concluded that the almeng gauge was re-calibrated totally after the replacement of the gauge head, and that the almen gauge would be certified for one year after the date written on the certificate of calibration issued upon the completion of the re-certification.
