Dear Mr. Jack Champaigne
I am furnishing below the detailed specs of hard shot peening for transmission gears.
Intensity -- 0.60 To 0.70 A
Coverage -- 100%
Velocity of shots -- 70 - 90 m/sec.
Shots -- SH 230, table rolled & run thru spirolator.
Exposure time -- not specified.
Machine -- Wheel type, multitable.
We are meeting the above specs only when we set the linear speed of wheel to 73.77 m/sec. i.e. wheel dia. 0.5 m and 2818 RPM
This results into heavy consumption of shots, hence we would like to increase the shot size to S 280 and reduce shot velocity so that for the
same peening results our consumption of shot will reduce.
Now my question is whether I can deviate a little from the std. specs of shot size of 1/2 the fillet redius ? By simple geomentry I am sure to get 100% coverage since the fillet radius is 1.2 mm . How does it affect the
properties of the component ( gears ).
Your prompt responce will be much appreciated.

Regards,
