We have hole 1 1/2" dia, 2" deep we are trying to lance. We are using 12 shot, 3/8 OD lance. Running at 40 PSI and we are unable to achieve an intensity higher than 4. How can we get a higher intensity. Do we have the wrong lance?

I presume by intensity of 4 you mean 0.004" on A scale? Can you describe how you position the Almen strips? Do you have special fixture with shaded strips? What are the strip arc height readings you get? Can you run at higher pressure? What is the 12 shot?

Yes it is an A scale. SS cut wire. We do have a special fixture. We have a piece of cut pipe sitting on top of the Almen strip. 1" of the strip is exposed to peening. The arc height is.0046

OK, so when you say "The" arc height is .0046, do you run only one strip or do you expose 4 strips at successively longer times as required by SAE procedures? You need to constuct a saturation curve and then interpret the curve in order to declare an intensity.

Do we just need to raise pressure and slow it down?

I put the data in Dr. Kirk's curve solver program and it appears that you need to slow down the feed rate substantially in order to get a proper curve and answer.
