Hello,
I have a really basic question about N Almen intensity. I need to reproduce an Almen intensity of 10-15 N. How much is the "bending" in mm that i should get? I have read that there is a factor of 40 but I am not sure. Could you please help me?

10N means 0.010 inch. 15N means 0.015 inch. There are exactly 25.4mm in 1 inch. You therefore have to multiply by 25.4 in order to convert inches into millimeters. O.01 x 25.4 = 0.254 mm and 0.015 x 25.4 = 0.381 mm. The correct answer is that your required range is 0.254 - 0.381 mm.

The "factor of 40" that you mentioned comes from dividing 1000 by 25 (= 40). Hence dividing a requirement in thousands of an inch by 40 gives the requirement in mm. For example: a requirement of 10 (thousandths of an inch) divided by 40 equals 0.25mm. That is close to the precise value of 0.254 but why compromise? Every computer and calculator can be used to mutiply by 25.4.

Or, you can just type "convert inches to mm" into Google and it will do it for you.

Thank you guys, this was really helpful. I do not have any experience with ceramic shot peening (we usually use A Almen strip for stainless steel beads). We need now to reproduce this Almen value of 10-15 N using Z150 ceramic beads and a nozzle size of 8 mm (5/16''). Do you maybe have an idea from which air pressure should I start? I do not want to break tons of beads trying to optimize the process.
