Abstract:
This specification covers shot peening by the mechanical wheel process. The primary function of shot peening is to induce compressive stresses at the surface and just below the surface in highly stress loaded areas. Increasing the compressive stresses increases the fatigue life of the component. For gears the shot pattern must cover the enitre gear tooth and it's fillet. For shafts, consult the blue print for the area to be covered
