INTRODUCTION For both peeners and customers, coverage is of vital importance. Our central problem is to be able to predict and control coverage so as to reach a specified level. It is not sufficient, however, to reach the specified coverage at just one location. Different locations, subject to greater amounts of peening, would then suffer excessive peening. An efficient, quantitative procedure for coverage prediction and control should be applied at several locations leading, if required, to
