Abstract:
BEFORE THE COVID-19 EPIDEMIC, airplanes transported 4.5 billion passengers and 57.7 million tons of freight every year. To keep them moving safely and fast, airplanes are equipped with turbojet engines that need to withstand extremely high loads. One of the processes aimed at keeping the engine running safely at such loads is the shot peening process which improves mechanical properties by inducing residual compressive stress and prevents fractures on practically every component of a turbojet engine. Taking in consideration that the most powerful turbojet engine produces up to 115.000 pounds of thrust, this process is crucial for every component.
