I have seen a gear with approx 0.6 DP teeth that has had the roots peened or impacted with a tool formed to the contour of the fillet. The impacts were at right angles to the axis and about 5mm wide and 10mm centres all across the width of the tooth. This was obviously done to impart compressive stress into the root the same way that shot peening is used, however I can see several advantages of this method over using shot. Can you please tell me who does this type of work or sells the equipment to do it?

Yours truly,
Bruce Cunningham
