What size of screen media should I put on our peening machine (on the vibrating screen) for shot peening process using Cast steel shot size 170, i.a.w AMS 2431/1?
The machine only has three outlets, but the steel material has passed the test sieve analysis of standard testing sieves (5 sizes) in accordance with ASTM E-11 which are placed in ascending order ( size 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45) with a pan on the bottom.

For S170 shot, we would recommend using a 26 TBC screen for the top screen and a 48 TBC screen for the bottom screen.

I currently work to the Airbus spec which calls up for the ASTM E-11 and use S170R and S230R, the machine is fitted with a Sweco separator model us48c6666 and the screen size for ths S170 is micron .470 wire diametre .165 on a 48" screen.
I get very good results using these size screens using the same sieves for testing as in your e-mail.
