Unfortunately we don't mention methods in our documents. It would be nice to have a consistent method applied, such as gathering a 1.5 Kg sample and splitting it down to 100 grams. The sub-sample for shape could be taken from this lot. Next, either 100 grams or the remainder of the sub-sample would then be presented for sieve analysis. The sieve analysis does not have to start with 100 grams as often believed. The procedure works in percentage. Using 100 grams has become accepted because of the ease of reporting.
