Sir,
I was browsing your web site on shot peening. We, at Vizag steel plant, India, have three steam turbine driven axial compressors. These blowers supply compressed air to blast furnaces. They operate at about 0.3 million cubic meter per hour volume discharge and at about 4.0kg/sq.cm. pressure and rpm 3960 and drive tubine power rating is about 30MW. The blowers are of two stages; each stage having 6 rows of blades. The blowers have been in operation since 1989.
Whenever we open the blower for inspection say once in 4 years after about 30000 hrs of operation we find cracks in the blade profile. We are replacing the blades and balance it and put into operation or use the spare rotor available with us. This is becoming expensive.
We would like know from you the following:
1) will on-site shot peening help in avoiding replacement of blades?
2) also how dowe know which are the blades that require shot peening (ie, which are under stress?).
Request your suggestions and do you have any company in India to takeup these jobs on site.
Regards
O.R.Ramani,
