Abstract:
The objective of weld treatments to increase the fatigue limit of the assemblies is to create more favorable microstructures and residual stresses. Results are given of a study on steel E36-3 of the improvements as a result of Tig remelting of the weld toe, peening between passes, peening of the last run and prestressing by shot peening. It appeared that shot peening and hammer peening were the most efficient techniques.
