Abstract:
The X-ray diffractometry method for measuring stresses is a fast and reliable technique in laboratory and on site. Results obtained for the prestresses in steel shot peening studies on 15CDV4 steel are in good agreement. They show a strong gradient of stresses (strains) on several tenths of a millimeter and a strong gradient of dislocation density on several hundredths of a millimeter. From the results it was possible to obtain a modelization of the strain--stress distribution in the shot-peened material thickness and to determine the superficial stress mechanism induced by shot peening.
