Abstract:
This specification covers the engineering requirements for peening surfaces of parts by impingement of metallic shot, glass beads, and ceramic shot. To induce residual compressive stress in surface layers of parts, thereby increasing fatigue strength and resistance to stress corrosion cracking. This process may also be used to straighten or form parts or for testing bond of plated materials. Descriptors: Quality controls and processes; Peening
