Abstract:
Coventry University, U.K. and Chairman of the International Scientific Committee for Shot Peening INTRODUCTION This paper is intended to show how useful quantitative and qualitative information about shot particles can be obtained using only simple equipment and a rudimentary knowledge of image analysis. Primary producers of shot need relatively complex equipment and trained staff to routinely assess quality control parameters using image analysis. Most users of shot, however, cannot afford those luxuries. The recently introduced Intel QX3 computer microscope offers an opportunity for virtually anyone in the peening industry to carry out image analysis on shot particles for an outlay of only about one hundred American dollars!
