Introduction When clamped Almen strips are being peened, a complex curvature is introduced (see Fig 1) where the vertical scale has been deliberately exaggerated. 'Curvature' is defined as 1/R where R is the radius of a curved surface. The maximum as-clamped deflection is shown as h.
